I find the argument that we should meet the author's expectations of collective ethical behavior before we take up any earnest effort to explore and perhaps even colonize other planets, entirely unpersuasive.
And given that the most serious ventures are being advanced by people like Elon Musk, the idea that capitalism must be left behind is simply absurd. Projects of this kind are not bound by ideology, and will require the concentration of powerful capitalists and stable state actors together.
I agree, but I found it interesting. I believe it's always important to consider all points of views.

Elon also did a talk recently in Mexico about it which as spurred a lot of talk too.
