Welcome to Casefile: True Crime Podcast
casefilepodcast.com
I've been listening to Casefile. It's Australian and the narrator is a very mellow guy who some might be bored by, I thin? I find his voice soothing in spite of the content. It's interesting because the majority of it are cases that I've never heard of just because of the location. There are some very holy shit no way cases.
So, what about you?
Side note: It would be fun to have listening parties the way we have Mad Men and movie watch parties.

Oh yes -- I've listened to an ep of Casefile, it was good.
I love "My Favorite Murder".
And I've gotten into "Sword and Scale", but I've got some mixed feelings about it as a whole.
A podcast listening party would be great! Some of these podcasts have eps uploaded to YouTube.
I love My Favorite Murder too : ) I love their new shirt designs using quotes from the show. My favorite is 'You're in a cult. Call your dad.' but I think that might be seen as a jab at Mormons since I live in Utah. It's so good, though!
I've never listened to Sword and Scale. What are your thoughts on it?
The host can be a little self-important. Self righteous?
It's a humorless true crime podcast. The host has a tendency to play full 911 tapes that seem endless. With this idea that the public needs to hear this but it becomes pointless when you find yourself listening to a half an hour of a some killer crying hysterically. And occasionally he embellishes an already gruesome story with annoying, egregious audio. Like a story where someone does something reprehensible with a microwave: he created audio of a microwave cooking for a minute to try to drive the point home. It can be very annoying like that.
BUT... it can also be interesting.
I'm not selling this, am I?
I find his strength is that he often puts the audio files in just such an order that a true crime case slowly reveals itself to you. The solved cases, for example, are slowly unveiled and you usually don't even know who was charged until the police finally know who did it in the timeline. This isn't true of all his podcasts, but like one third of them perhaps.
But I also agree with all your other points. Sometimes he seems too "into" the gruesome stuff. And I know this is bizarre to say for a guy talking about crime and murder, but he can be so judgmental. It's unsettling how judgmental he can be. It feels like he's not just judging a rapist or a killer for their crimes, but like certain personality traits or behaviours that a lot of non-criminals have.
I actually like the long audio clips the best, because it really paints the picture of the story, you can hear the voices of the people involved, the voices of the cops, the 911 calls I find fascinating personally. Also as a bonus the more audio he plays the less he talks.
Yes, you're hitting on something there. He can be very judgmental!
I feel like this is intriguing enough to try : )
It's also disturbing how judgmental he is of mental illness. He often talks like anyone with schizophrenia or a similar disorder is a walking time bomb and will inevitably murder someone.
Thats it exactly, perfect example.
I listen to SO many true crime podcasts. As with others, lately I'm in My Favourite Murder. I do listen to Casefile, too, and I agree with you @Jessica the host is calm and his cases are so well chosen. Interesting cases, even his solved ones are fascinating. In fact, I think most of his cases are solved.
To bring something new into the mix, I'm just back into True Crime Garage. The feed went off and I thought they were on summer break. NOPE! They switched feeds just before summer and that whole time they were putting out many new episodes. So I'm catching up. I just listened to their Maura Murray analysis and it was very interesting. The hosts are pretty good, seem like good guys to me, the beer thing is okay I guess, some people might love their obsession with beer but I just tolerate it or skip ahead to the true crime. If you don't like beer they really only talk about beer for one or two minutes, and then it's around an hour or so of true crime.
I was wondering about True Crime Garage. I'm not into beer but if it's just a short bit I can handle it. I'll give that one a try.
Thanks!
