We like television... and we like not liking television.
Someone talk to me about the good wife right now
I'm very upset about the series finale and I don't have time to take a week off of work to mourn it. So I need you to explain why the way they ended it was OK.

I thought maybe it would make sense to me in the morning......
Serioulsy! Me too! I actually dreamed a different ending and when I woke up I had to remind myself what actually happened. In my dream version Alicia and Diane were overeating turkey and laughing and Grace was trying to get Alicia to stop because she had a surgery in one hour and she wasn't supposed to eat for 12 hours before surgery. My dream ending was more satisfying than the real one. Although I will say that I like that Alicia didn't get a happy ending and I like that they ended with her being the good wife, but one with a future. I just thought it was sloppy presentation and the Diane slap scene, while incredibly acted, was such a strange way to close out the show.
Ok, let's just get this out of the way, I'm jelous of your dream. Now, what were you thinking when Alicia went into the evacuated offices looking for files? I had perked up thinking, "This is it - the dramatic ending is going to be the ceiling is going to collapse on her because the construction crew knocked out the load bearing supports." And then........ strange dream sequence with Will. So, I LOVE Diane and totally thought Alicia deserved the slap, but then NOTHING?!??!? What? Huh? Speaking of Diane, I think Christine Baranski steals the show with every part she plays. The Birdcage, The Grinch, The Big Bang Theory, Fraiser and Cybill to name a few.
Yeah, Christine Baranski is incredible. And I thought the slap scene was phenomenal. But what happens to Alecia!? I think the most interesting thing about the way the show ended is that Alecia and Peter have sort of traded places. Alecia has shown that she's willing to do whatever needed to get the results she wants. Peter is no longer willing to do the same. This is demonstrated in that scene when Alecia wants the kids in front of the press to help Peter and Peter refuses to allow them to get caught up in it, a total reverse of their attitudes in season one. Also, I think it's facinating that the premise of the 7 seasons is that Alecia has to stay with Peter for political reasons, but then in the finale Eli explains that Alecia now has to divorce Peter for political reasons so the donors will be willing to send money her way now that Peter is politically dead. The show literally covered the exact period in which she was "the good wife," beginning from the moment their marriage became a "sham" all the way until the exact last second she had to be married to him. That story arch was phenomenal.
BUT. Slap and role credits. WTF!?!?!?
Maybe she becomes President but everyone in her personal life hates her except Eli.
