Legendary Defender Rewatch! Ep 02 (Some Assembly Required)
Episode 02, and a combination of slapstick comedy, some revealing issues -- and the advent of Voltron's most classic kind of antagonist.
Thoughts? Observations? Toss 'em up here :D

Second episode -- let the hijinks begin *lol*
Also Keith is very high strung. And sleeping lying on a blade holster, ow.
And now begins the comedy --
Including keeping the hilariously mecha sentai boarding montage. 83
this made me so happy the first time you have no idea*lalala* *comedy boredom failure lalala*
Shiro's looked vaguely bored so far. Lack of sleep?
Sorry Hunk, if you want a crack at being the head you need to be in a different show. (cute Voltron Force callout, LD team)
Allura is really enjoying this lolololol
GO DEATH LAZORSAnd naaah, Allura, Zarkon's too busy killing minions atm ;3 Also, it occurs to me that the design team has gone to waaaay too much effort detailing that scar down Zarkon's face. I want to know where that came from.
Shiro your issues are showing
Yaaay training deck!
Yaaay Haggar doing Robeast Making Things[tm]!
It's not really surprising that Pidge and Hunk are eliminated first, seeing as they're effectively the non-coms of this team. The other three are the pilots and likely have more actual combat training of whatever flavour.
Aaaand more silliness, though at least Shiro gets to bond with Black some. Also we see more of Pidge's all-overriding family concerns (and need to keep details of same under wraps) ...
... and Allura needs to chill some, jeezus. You would think someone who has already seen warfare would recognize the signs of a trauma flashback, yeah? Of course, she's sublimating issues of her own and that's the root of this entire episode --
So we get more silliness -- and a glorious foodfight -- instead.
It's about time the team started claiming some of their own back, really ;3 And I really~ can't help but suspect that Keith took right this moment to decide not only did he have enough of Allura's shit, but that it was time for at least a wee~ bit of payback for the Death Lazors. Heh.
But hay now the tension is broken and there's Teh Funney and let's go form Voltron! Yeah!
Yes, yes, a common enemy ;3 But let's not try to hide you have things to work out, Princess ~
Much like Pidge, really --
Random final observation; is it just me, or did Keith's blade holster disappear before the end of the episode?
This episode works fairly well at dealing with a lot of things that seemed missing from the pilot, with some additional characterization and furthering of agendas (to a degree).
But it is hilaaaarious and the comedy works so much better in this episode.
Also, all the classic super-robot boarding sequences. Yaaaay~
It does flow a hell of a lot more naturally than the pilot, which is a blessing.
I suspect at least part of my disgruntlement is over spending an entire episode on it all, which is as much hindsight and irritation over the even bigger misuse of time in a limited season that's coming later as anything else.
This is the one where we see their mental pictures, right? I liked the little hints they gave us of their backstopries and mental landscapes.
I would have appreciated a little more actual info there, myself; the only one who really offered up new details was Lance (his family).
Oh, definitely. I have hopes for season 2!
I'm hoping, somewhat desperately, but I admit I'm getting a little dubious -- a second season, with cliffhangers and Sudden End Of Season Revelations[tm] to deal with, can be shaky timing for digging into the character establishing that would have fit better in S1.
