@weffey and @Lesley combined, into one!
I gave my favourite Docs some love, for the first time in years
I don't remember when exactly I bought these Docs, but I know it was two cublicle moves before I left my job in Seattle. I know that much, because I remember shortly after buying them, getting a deep scratch on the toe from the desktop tower that was in the cube that faced south-west, and being pissed all day over it.
For reference, I left Seattle in August of 2012.
These Docs are at least 5, if not 6 years old. I don't think I've given any good care in atleast 3 years, other than washing the salt build up off at the end of winter each year.
A couple of before pictures:
When I bought my new Docs a couple months ago, I bought one of the care kits, I told myself:
This time, I'll take care of the Docs.
However, despite buying a brand new pair of cherry red Docs, the store did not have the cherry red polish. Not that it is that hard to come by online, I just never think of it, and only ever remember at the oddest of times.
Last weekend, I was in Portland, and they have a Doc Marten's store. A Doc Marten's store that was open (I have a habit of going to city's with a dedicated store, and getting there 10 minutes after they close). Low and behold, they had the cherry red polish!
And so, tonight, with a congested nose, meaning I can smell nothing, I set up, ready to go to work:
Now, before I continue, I had no hope that I would be restoring these to their previous glory. Like I said multiple years of active neglect.
After one round of polish, I compared:
Already, I was happy with the result.
Two more polishing and a layer of wonder basalm later, the difference is swoon worthy:
And, all done:
There's a couple of deep gashes, and the toes are still lighter, but they look so much better already. I'll setting them aside, and giving them another go tomorrow night, but so happy already.
I'm pretty sure I used about half a tin of the polish.
My roommate gets a thanks in this post as well. A few weekends ago, we went and visited friends in Seattle, and he saw the light setup my friend had. The next weekend, my crafting area had a new shop light installed. So much easier to craft, or polish, after dark now.
It probably doens't look that bright in this picture, but it is, and it's great.

Despite the gashes, that's a damned good cleanup job!
Thanks! My expectations were pretty low, but I'm super pleased with the result!
I'm so glad you gave them some love instead of just forgetting about them. 💛
