I just seen the fourth episode with Fichtner in it yesterday, heh, that's why I selected Empire today, while I have him fresh in mind. I haven't even watched the rest of the season yet, though I will do that now.
The role is built on a lot on hints: we don't really "see" much, but there's plenty of signals being sent. Henthrop seems to have considerable influence and very knowledgeable about gay activism, he seems well respected and a fairly good guy - but don't cross him, which Jamal comes very close to doing, because you don't want to be on his bad side. There also seems to be something past between Henthrop and the father of the Lyon brothers (to quote "The day I found out that Lucious Lyon had a gay son is the day that I knew, I knew right then and there, that there was a God"). So I think the character has potentials to be very interesting, but we need to see more of him.
I was terrified they'd do something tawdry and have him come on to Jamal or something, and I was so pleased when he was just a strong character who is serious about supporting.
I do hope they'll bring him back - and if the third season has more of the backstory of Lucious and such, as I've heard, well ... maybe? So far there's room for it, anyway!
Good job by Fichtner, as always. He looks a bit older in this role, but I think it's a conscious choice of being the mature, strong, professional mogule, kinda thing.
More, we hope!
We do, we do!
