Pottermore's Patronus Test
I made it through the day! I felt very sluggish this morning, and would have much rather stayed in bed, but once I got going it wasn't so bad. I'm still tired, but I haven't been sleeping much lately; it's nothing a couple of good nights' sleep won't fix.
Anyway, Pottermore, the official Harry Potter website, has a new test to find out what your Patronus is. I love to take those, so I had to try out this one too.
The Patronus is the most famous (and famously difficult) defensive charm. The aim is to produce a silvery-white guardian or protector, which takes the form of an animal. [...] One of the most powerful defensive charms known to wizardkind, the Patronus can also be used as a messenger between wizards. As a pure, protective magical concentration of happiness and hope (the recollection of a single talisman memory is essential in its creation) it is the only spell effective against Dementors.
I got this cutie:
It turns out my Patronus is a West Highland Terrier! 🐶 Which is funny, because in a recent post I was talking about how I would love to have a small dog someday.
I love the Pottermore tests, and I'm not even into Harry Potter, haha. They're just so well-made and imaginative and fun! From the previous ones I learned that my Hogwarts house is Gryffindor, my Ilvermorny house is Thunderbird, and my magic wand is made of Cherry wood with a Unicorn hair core 11" and Slightly Yielding flexibility. ✨
Back when I took the Sorting Hat quiz, I was genuinely surprised to get sorted into Gryffindor. It's not that I was disappointed (I had no preference regarding the results one way or another), I just wasn't convinced it was a good fit. The traits associated with Gryffindor are "brave, courageous, chivalrous, daring, bold;" those aren't exactly words I would use to describe myself. But after pondering about it for some time, I think it might fit on some occasions. For example, when there is something I'm afraid to do, more often than not I'll build up my courage and do it anyway. And during extremely stressful life-and-death situations, my personality can do a 180 degree turn; I found out hands-on that I'm the kind of person who will refuse to get out of a flooded house despite the risk of being electrocuted because I have to find my cat (this is not to say that particular event didn't cause me a whole lot of trauma, but that came later).
Hm, I may be putting a weeee little bit too much thought into silly online tests.
You can take all the Pottermore quizzes here (you'll need to create an account if you don't already have one). What is your Patronus? 🎇

Mine is a Dun Mare.
I'm not quite sure how it knows which color mare my patronus is, given that it should be white. But there you go. I've got a dun mare. I'm in Ravenclaw, which isn't at all surprising. I've forgotten my wand. I remember it fit me quite well, though.
It took me a while to reply as I was dealing with stuff in real life, but I wanted to thank you for sharing this!
It is strange that it would specify the color of your Patronus. I have read that this color in horses is caused by something called the dun gene. Could it be that the magic involved in summoning the Patronus can somehow replicate the animal's genetic code? Mind you, this is only a throwaway theory; I'm neither an expert in genetics nor the workings of magic in the Harry Potter universe.
It is, but it would make more sense to specify a breed. Duns are considered a genetic throwback when it comes to coloring. (Grew up on a farm. Learn weird things.) It's one of the oldest colorings for horses. (Looking at cave paintings, you'll see dun-colored horses.) But they're in various breeds. If they had said Arabian Mare, or Clydsdale Mare it would have made much more sense. You can tell those without colors.
