Blast from the Past - 24th May
2008: After 2 days and 2 hours with no computer, the engineer finally made it to my desk to replace my computer's power block. Apparently it was just a capacitor that needed replacing but it was quicker to switch out the power blocks with new ones and then fix the fried ones later.
The managers were in panic mode because our end of year reviews needed to be submited to the online system by the next week and with a lack of computers they'd been unable to do so.
At the weekend, we did some gardening and cut the grass so I was suffering really badly with my hayfever. Also the wind blew down the fence on one side of our garden, one we'd been meaning to replace for a while because it was a lot lower than a normal back garden fence which meant we didn't have much privacy from our neighbour on that side.
2010: Another team started using a spreadsheet my team had been using to divide out new cases to the case workers. The manager of the other team could not get his head around one aspect of it.
Basically it was a tally chart that kept a total of how many cases each caseworker had received, so we could keep the case loads even. The aspect the manager couldn't understand was that we'd put in "ghost" numbers on days when a caseworker was off so we didn't end up giving them a big pile of cases upon their return when trying to get the numbers to tally up.
This was apparently explained to the manager about 10 different ways and he decided in the end to use the sheet without doing the balancing numbers which really wasn't going to end well.
