Blast from the Past - 4th March

2008: My hamster Toffee died at the age of 1 year and 11 months old, she used her last burst of energy to get to the door of her cage so I could pick her up and then she took her last breath in my hand as I gently stroked her. I was incredibly distraught and text my brother who would've been at uni and he rang me back to check I was OK (I lived with my mum but she'd already gone to bed when this happened). Once I'd calmed myself enough to go to bed I placed her back in her cage partly due to denial and then as I tried to sleep I kept thinking I could still hear her wandering about her cage and chewing food etc.

Though she was somewhat old and had been showing some signs of going downhill in recent weeks, this final moment had taken me by surprise as she'd been doing pretty well for a few days. Also she was the second hamster to have died in my hand (the previous was Vanilla who'd been my last hamster before I went to uni, Toffee was my first after I graduated), a lot of hamster owners have this happen, as if they wait for you before saying goodbye.

The next morning I woke up ages before my alarm and found a box to put her in, and got to work very early. Once home mum helped me bury her in the garden and then we headed to see Juno in the cinema.

(I wrote a post before all about every hamster I've ever had, and you can find that here)

2010: I was marvelling in feeling well again after a few days having a bad cold, and more ranting about work and the union going on strike again.

2012: My partner and I were waiting to hear back from a new landlord about whether we were able to move to a house we'd applied for. We only had two and half weeks left on our current contract.

I started a selfie a day project, though the site I used to share a compilations of the pics so far seems to have gone.
