Remember remember the 5th of November

Today is the 5th of November, also known as Guy Fawkes night, bonfire night, fireworks night. It's the day when we celebrate parliament not getting blown up by blowing stuff up and buring effigies!

Though people set off fireworks for nearly a month around the date, which is annoying, especially if you have pets! We didn't see our cat till gone midnight last night, she was probably cowering somewhere during the worst of the fireworks. Hopefully she'll already be in tonight before it starts and we can give her cuddles!

One of my schools held a fireworks display every year because one of the staff happened to be licsenced for the higher category display fireworks (not the ones they sell in the supermarket) so that was pretty fun!

But the best Bonfire Night I ever went to was in 2006 at a village in Surrey called Chiddingfold.

Like many places, they have a long tradition of holding events for the 5th November - they have a torch procession to light the massive bonfire and burn the effigy before the fireworks start!

And it was cold but that always seems right for fireworks, I'll never understand setting them off in the summer - you need a dark cold night with a roaring bonfire and some hot chocolate!

Here are some of the photos I took that day (also a couple of videos 1, 2)!
