Carbon monoxide poisoning forces cancellation of Wisconsin game
The No. 1 ranked University of Wisconsin women's hockey team soundly defeated the Lindenwood University on Friday by a score of 5-1. A curiosity of why members of the University of Wisconsin women's hockey team were short of breath during last Friday's game at Lindenwood turned into what coach Mark
Multiple Wisconsin and Lindenwood players were taken to hospital for evaluation but everybody has checked out okay.
So many players and staff were complaining of fatigue and shortness of breathe during the game and after the game that the paramedics and fire department were called. When testing was done by the fire department, it was determined the carbon monoxide level in the rink was 200 times higher than permitted. It's believed the excess fumes came from a malfunctioning zamboni.
To those unaware, carbon monoxide has no smell but can be fatal if large quantities are breathed in over a short period of time.

Holy cow!
Carbon monoxide is very scary stuff. A few decades ago, an entire town (I forgot exactly where) died in their sleep when a cloud of carbon monoxide settled over the town.
Are you thinking about Bhopal, India?
Oops, we're both wrong. I tried google again, and got my answer. It happened near Lake Nyos in Cameroon in 1986. But it was carbon dioxide, not carbon monoxide (oops!) that suffocated the villagers and their livestock. There was a landslide, and a huge cloud of CO2 was released from the crater.
Good googling. Bhopal was a gas called methyl isocyanite. 3, 787 people were killed. That was on 1984.
