With a weekend that included a landmark game adding to the historic backdrop, Caroline Ouellette reached a new summit with her club team, Les Canadiennes de Montreal. In a superlative career that has included four Winter Games gold medals, the golden goal at the 2012 IIHF Women’s Ice Hockey World Championships, and the distinction of being the first skater to gain entry into the unofficial Triple Gold Club for Women, Ouellette is a once-in-a-lifetime player whose Hall of Fame credentials make her most worthy of the moniker “living legend.”

Ouellette is the last remaining active member of women's hockey's holy trinity. Canadian fans have looked to Wickenheuser, Hefford and Ouellette for hockey salvation for twenty years or more. Wickenheuser is off contemplating life after Olympic and international fame. Hefford is captaining her own family. Ouellette stands alone, still fighting, still leading still driving to the net at top speed. She has said that she still wishes to carry on play until some rips the sweater from her back. Watching her play with the same fire, with the same intensity and the same joy, it seems she will play until well into her forties. She is a treat to watch, especially when she goes into that other gear that few seem to possess. I feel there will be many more records established and many more hearts won over to the game as she spins her on-ice magic.
I always enjoy watching Ouelette play.
