This a community for fans and supporters of all forms of women's hockey.
Six month community update: How are we doing?
First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who's joined and participated in this community. It's been open and active about 7 months now and has far surpassed my expections of what I wanted from it.
Feel free to answer as few or as many questions as you like.
Is there anything @Icing_On_The_Rink and I ( @mywitfailsme ) can do better?
What type of content would you like to see in /womens_hockey?
Do you have any suggestions for new tags?
Do you know of news sources for other women's hockey leagues?
What would encourage you to post more?

My wit and Icing, you two are doing a great job on this forum. You bring in news from all over and I believe are important cogs in the wheel of women's hockey. Your depth of knowledge is great and you seem to be living it 24/7. What you do for women's hockey in just getting the word out is phenomenal. When I think of reporting on women's hockey I think of 'Don't Snow the Goalie', Speakslow13 and both of you. You have great pioneer spirit and I hope that in 50 years when women's hockey is as ubiquitous as men's hockey you will get some mention of your efforts to bring women's hockey into the public eye. I hope you keep doing what you're doing and whenever you need a boost and need to be reassured that you are doing a great job. Just ask me and I'll tell you.
This comment means the world to me! Usually staying on top of news in the women's hockey world is a pure joy, but when my life gets busy, it does get harder to devote the time required to keep up with everything, especially creating posts such as the game summaries and streaming reminders which need to be published at certain times during the week in order to stay relevant. That's why it means so much to me whenever somebody tells me they appreciate the time we spend doing this. Thank you!
You're quite welcome.
I don't know what you mean by new tags. It's a generational thing I think.
The tags are the seen in grey boxes beneath the post titles. They identify the content of each post (ex. CWHL, NWHL, Caroline Ouellette etc). If somebody wants to read only posts that are concerned with a specific tag, they click that tag (the grey box containing the word they want) and they will only see the posts that use that tag. The tags are added by the post creator and we can add/remove tags anytime we want. If there is an idea/person/team that people would like us to tag for, so they can filter posts for that tag in the future, they can let us know. For example, I recently added a tag for 'Shannon Szabados', since none of our other tags are relevant to her, so without the tag, it was impossible for somebody to filter for the Szabados posts in the forum.
Post more stuff about the second and third tier players as they are the ones we will have to identify with next year.
As for what I'd like to see is more content on the players who are not on the national radar. There are so many greats outside of the national team radar. There are over a hundred great stories out there. These are the players we need to get to know for next year as the NWT players aren't going to be available. It will be a new league next year for a year.
I absolutely agree with you! I'm constantly seeing the same players being mentioned in articles/posts. Of course, they deserve the praise due to being phenomenal players, but they tend to overshadow the other players. I think it's the same in the NHL (and probably other sports). Ask somebody who isn't a Dallas Stars fan to name some Stars players, and they'll tell you Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn and maybe one or two other names, but unless they follow the team closely, they won't know many of the other players. I find that it's a Catch-22 situation: people want to read about players they know, so the media provides content focusing on the popular players, so people only learn about the popular players. I try my best to point out accomplishments by the less popular players when I'm putting together my CWHL game summaries and I always try to tag all the players by their full names on my tumblr so that people are more exposed to the lower tier players. On one hand, I don't want to overwhelm people with content about people they don't recognize, since they'll just ignore those posts, but I'm also tired of seeing the same names being mentioned over and over. I try to take the middle road: attracting people's attention by pointing out the big names, and then pointing out the lower tier players as well. It's definitely a work in progress.
