Dough vs Batter
You probably all know this one already, but it was new to me.
We were making pancakes this weekend and I said something about "pancake dough". My wife laughed at me and told me it was "pancake batter", a term which I had of course heard before but didn't really know the distinction between dough and batter. So Google ho!
I found there is a technical distinction and it has to do with the ratio between liquid and flour:
So not only is there a difference, but there are gradations on the batter-dough scale!






Can you pick it up and hold it in your hands? It's dough. Would it leak through your fingers? It's batter.
