How Clearly Do You Picture a Scene Before You Write It?

I'm not much of a planner. I often know the key points to a scene and the general description, but it doesn't actually come to life until I put pen to paper.

Interested in hearing how it works for others?

I'm almost a complete panster. I know what characters will be there and vaguely what I want them to do, but sometimes they just don't want to... I could try planning things out and see what happens, but I'm not sure how well they'd listen.

I'm a very visual thinker. I think as a kid I was tested as 80% visual. So when I think about a story I live it. I can walk around the world in my head and see characters without doing any planning much of the time.

Often when I actually put pen to paper I'm just writing down scenes or settings I've already experienced a hundred times or more.
