Writers: When In Doubt, WWYL
Okay, before you do anything else, go read what Very Smart Author Jaye Wells says about creative burnout - "Writers Need An Escape Hatch ." Good? Done? Rad. I have been doing this writing thing professionally for - *coughs into hand* - about 16 years.

This is so true. I think I've wasted a lot of time trying to make my stories what I wanted them to be rather than what was just the most organic and natural.
I always wanted my stories to be this grand, sweeping world with so much awesomeness that felt kind of like you were getting swept into an LOTR movie. But... I wasn't really good at that, and continuing to try to make my stories like that meant that they weren't very good and I was never happy with them.
I also wanted to be as real and profound as a Steinbeck novel, but I would end up writing more real-life stories that felt more dull and and I also just am not quite as profound as Steinbeck, sadly.
I think I finally found my niche with a modern story with just a touch of fantasy to it, written in very short chapters/updates that just sound more human. Suddenly my writing is moving much faster and more organically now. :)
