Inspiring each other to write!
[WP] I think I have a writing prompt that might interest someone
Hi, I spent many years on and off writing a screenplay, and have contacted many Hollywood producers and studios to get interest in it, but nothing happened. The main problem was no movie industry connections, and poor screenwriting skills I guess. But people that read the script, liked the story.
A guy who had grown up around the Hollywood movie industry and had produced one indie film, gave me an idea. Find a writer to co-write the story into a novel. In his words, He said the story is money.
The story is about mental illness, alcoholism, drugs, teenage love, punk rock, being homeless, gun violence and angels. It is called 'Magical Thinking'.
So if anyone might be interested in talking with me about turning this screenplay, into a novel. You can download the script at...

Dropbox.com / different ending (only last three pages)

Wow Thomas. Thanks for sharing that. I have two questions initially:
Hi, and thanks for your reply. I have never written a treatment for the script. I have written a log line and synopsis years ago.
If someone has a good idea to re-frame the story into anything that is interesting, I am interested in talking with them However, I am not familiar with YA fiction, what's that?
Oh, I did a google search. “Young Adult fiction” that sound like it could work. Except much of the story is kinda 'R' rated.
YA - Young Adult Fiction. It's a very large and broad market, and I thought your young guy's experiences could translate into a novel that engages with some substantial real life issues.

YA fiction often deals with R-rated elements! Because such is life. See here:

That does sound like it could work. This story go into many real life issues, although some are dark, depressing and somewhat violent. I guess someone with kinda a sick mind, like I have could make it work!
:-)
It sounds like you have an interest in the YA genre?
There are many people with an interest in YA fiction - it sells well! But a caveat: all the things you felt limited the exposure of your script in the film industry (connections, promotional platforms) are also at work in publishing.
I think there are many writers on in the Imzysphere who could share some detailed experience of the effort that continues long after a final draft (and even getting to that stage can be Herculean sometimes). There are a number of different paths a writer can take these days. Try to plunder the collective mind of the writers here to come up with a plan.
Ok, cool, thanks! I will see who else chimes in on this post. Thanks so much for your reply!
No worries! I'll check in on you every so often to see where you're at with your project.
I'm going to check this out. Thanks, Thomas!
That's great!, Thanks!
