It's always write to me that Northstar was the break out Alpha Flight member, I think he might be the only one to ever have a solo. He keeps showing up in the X-Books and has consistently since the turn of the century. He is an important character from a representation standpoint but honestly, I'm not a big fan. What do you think about him?

It's hard to talk about Northstar without talking about queer representation...but to me he was always a boring character (not including the latest Astonishing X-Men) and expect for his status in queer representation I can't really find anything interesting about him. And I really wish there was....
He has a similar as Quicksilver where I just don't like him as a character. I do think now with Karma, Iceman, and Anole, Northstar might not be needed to be the "gay character" of the X-Men. It's weird that I actually really like his relationship with Kyle, I just dislike most of his other characterization
I don't want to say that because it's not just a token that should be filled by "X amount of people" but as much representation as can be.... just wish he was as interesting as any of the other characters you mentioned.
I honestly really like Northstar. I've only read Alpha Flight and his recent stint in Amazing X-Men. I think both are good. I particularly liked the somewhat recent Amazing X-Men #13 and the conversation with Nightcrawler, Anole, and Northstar. I've heard about his representation in Astonishing X-Men, but I haven't read that yet. From what I've heard, that run is really something to look forward to (and I like Joss Whedon, so it's definitely on my list of comics to read).
I think it's important to point out that Iceman has just recently come out as gay, but Northstar has been out for a while. Anole is also somewhat younger, so it's nice to see his experiences, but I miss Northstar's presence in the current lineup as an established (married) out gay man.
