On Conventions and Convening

Jay here! I'm in the midst of trying to get together our promotional materials and graphics for ECCC--which is coming up awfully fast. We've got a lot going on this year: in addition to tabling, we're doing a live episode on Friday, and throwing a party/listener meetup--hosted by Seattle's awesome Phoenix Comics--on Saturday.
Cons are odd spaces for us as a podcast. We've both been to a lot of shows individually, but in super different capacities: I'm usually attending as a pro and/or covering the show as a journalist; and Miles is usually working IT and retail for Dark Horse. Tabling--and meeting listeners--as ourselves (not to mention the idea that we're people who people come to conventions to meet--is something we're still very much getting used to.
At the same time, the few cons we've attended as Jay & Miles (that is to say, Official Podcast Jay & Miles) have really driven home our favorite thing about doing this show: the community that's built up around it. We're still a few days out from introducing that community here en masse--we're trying to avoid losing the announcement between the massive amount of Episode 100 and ECCC stuff that has been and is about to be going up--but we're really excited about the idea of seeing how it grows in a more explicitly community-oriented space.

Perhaps this is a bit out of context but I would love help get you all to SLC comicon.
Right now, the best way to get us to shows outside of the PNW is to convince them to bring us out as guests/cover travel and lodging--we don't do a lot of merch, so it's pretty much the only way we can make sure we at least recoup expenses.
One day I will be able to go to ECCC! It's been on my list for years, but by literally being on the other side of the country, it is understandably hard to get to! I am beyond miffed my cousin got married last week - she clearly should have scheduled her wedding to coincide with ECCC, so I could just extend my trip ;)
