Because it's about time someone did!
Out a character out of the closet!!!
So as i do on saturday night i went through comicsalliance and i've read a couple of articals about caracters who people think should be part of the LGBTQ+ community. And i thought it would be nice to write down some of our ideas and reads on characters who should be outed.
Some ground rules:
OPPINIONS ARE NOT UP FOR DISSCUSIONS - while up until now we were all nice everyone has there oppnions on ships and characters and since at the end of the day this is a very safe and fun community this could go bad fast so please even if you 100% disagree don't point out why someone is not X even if its just a diffrent part of the community (I don't belive anyone would argue about this but its good to write this down).
If you don't feel comfortable to explain then don't. And please don't pressure anyone to explain why either. sometimes there is no explanetion....
Please don't bring indestry politics into this. Yes its bad there is only a little represetion and X number of characters should be outed but lets just forget about it and have some fun.
So I really want Peter Parker to come out as Bi. he is a neurotic loner with guilt and parental issuses for start but more importantly then that he always holds himself back from true happines even if he never dated/dates a guy him denying himself his true feelings and not wanting to confront them is 100% in character!!!!

Storm should really come out as pansexual. Have her start a relationship with a woman, and when someone asks her about it, she says she doesn't care about gender, she's interested in people.
Kitty and Illyana. Marvel needs to do a series where those two go on a road trip, get into all sorts of fun adventures, and confess and explore their feelings for each other. They're literal soul mates, guys! This is one of my few ships. I almost never take part in shipping. I just take them as they come. But Kitty and Illyana? I absolutely ship them. So hard. Killyana for life! (Yeah yeah, I know that's not their popular ship name, but come on. Killyana. That's way funnier than Kityana or Magikat or whatever.
Psylocke. She's already been involved with a woman, but it was under circumstances that mean it's still possible to argue she's not really bi. So have her hook up with another woman. My vote: Mystique. Psylocke and Mystique can begin a sexual relation in UXM, one that's just hate-sex as they vie for dominance while still hating each others' guts. It would be great. (Also, Marvel NEEDS to do a mini showing how Mystique and Destiny met and fell in love. I don't know how that story doesn't already exist. I really don't. It would be a period-piece lesbian-romance heist story. Explain to me how that wouldn't be amazing.)
Gambit. There's been loads of subtext, so make it text. Have him come across an ex who's a guy. Or have him hook up with a guy during a heist. It'd be fun.
I should get some non-X-characters in here, so: Hercules. Dammit, Marvel just let Hercules bang some dudes.
There's a theory that Emma is trans - that she is, in fact, her own brother, Christian. It's a really interesting theory, and one I would definitely love to see made canon. Marvel needs trans characters. Desperately.
I will admit that making Gambit gay will make him one thousand times more interesting, seeing his backgruond with Rogue (and think about all the angry fans!!! XD)
Emma as a trans is also a super interesting choice and somewhat a logical one.
I think I would be happy to see both.
As to Psylocke, Kittyana and Strom - These ones I'm less excited about. Mostly because they are already practically canon for me.
I actually meant making Gambit bi. He loves the ladies way too much to be gay. But he's had a fair bit of subtext hinting that he likes dudes, too, so he should be outed as bi.
So much here I <3.
Am I the only one who kind of wants an awkward Kitty/Illyana/Rachel love triangle? So, Illyana is the first/old girlfriend that broke off due to Illyana being out of the picture for so long and now there's this awkward tension since Rachel & Kitty are together, but they all still really want to be friends?
I would love a series about Mystique and Destiny meeting in the early 1900s written like a noir detective story with Raven as the private investigator and Irene as the beautiful client she knows is trouble, but just can't say "no" to. Something that digs into their start at working the diaries to avoid certain futures. Heists, intrigue, politics, romance; this would have it all.
I think Hercules counts as an X-character for these purposes; one version of him was part of the X-Treme X-Men run that had him and alt-u Howlett (Wolverine) as a couple. Hercules' bi-erasure is forever one of the great tragedies of the current comics status quo.
Hell, speaking of Wolverine, can we just have him and Nightcrawler be a thing already? Friends with benefits, even?
Also, Emma as trans is forever my new reading of the character. It fits so well.
I'd love to see that love triangle. I guess, though, that it would be complicated by the fact that Kitty, presumably, was involved with Illyana pre-Inferno, after which she was de-aged and then killed by the Legacy Virus, and the Illyana who's around right now is... from another universe or something? This is a gap in my knowledge.
I'd like it if someone could expound on the trans Emma Frost theory a bit. I've followed the link that XmenXpert provided elsewhere in the thread, but I still don't understand why it makes sense for her to be trans (like, is there an aspect of her personality that seems particularly appropriate for a trans woman?), and so I'm curious.
I mean...this is the X-Men. When has "you've been de-aged, re-aged, lost your soul, got it back, lost it again, and now you're actually an alternative time line version who jumped over to 616 and might be evil" ever stopped them?
I'M SORRY CAN WE GO BACK TO TRANS EMMA FAN THEORY FOR A SECOND?? Where did this theory come from, who's written on it, who has links, when can I have them. The idea of being her own brother is amazing, although after reading the Emma Frost solo series, would be verrry hard to explain. But I want to see someone explain it, because dear GOD would I love that to be the mother of all retcons.
Which reminds me, does ANYONE know if that dangling brother plot thread was ever covered again? Before the solo series was canceled, one of the biggest motivators for young Emma Frost to survive and make money was to get her brother out of the asylum their father sent him to. I can't remember off the top of my head if Grant Morrison wrote that Emma's brother killed himself while locked up, or if it was just left implied that he's still in a padded room somewhere. As one of the few openly gay male characters in the Marvel Universe, I sure would love to see Emma's brother revisited. Once we just get Emma back in continuity. Sigh.
Also, excellent point Psyche: how has there NOT been a Mystique/Destiny miniseries yet??? I wanted to read "Wolverines" solely for the Mystique storyline of trying to bring Destiny back to life. Anyone know if the series included satisfying flashbacks of their relationships? Anybody wanna put a spoiler warning up and just tell us how that resurrection plan went?
It's explained a bit here: http://ayellowbirds.tumblr.com/post/31352055337/emma-frost-trans
The main place I've seen it was on the CBR forums, in the LGBT Characters thread.
Steve Rogers is bi. No one will convince me otherwise.
Bucky, Shadowcat, Magik, Gambit, Storm are too. I understand, when presented with a lack of representation, that people will project identities onto fictional characters (which is totally cool), but I tend to only interpret characters as LGBTQ+ when I feel like it's supported by the text...er, subtext. In the case of these characters, I can't really see them any other way. As far as my read on all of them go, they're bi, even if it's never explicitly stated.
Transgender Bruce Banner. He's defined by and often terrified of his own masculinity and perhaps the Hulk has been the ultimate expression of denial.
That said I'm not too familiar with Bruce continuity-wise so this may be based on my own mis-reading.
That would be rather interesting seeing as the Hulk at his best is a manifestation of Bruce's psyche how that transition manifests in his transformations.
This is really fascinating idea and now i really hope someone will explore it!!!!
I don't know if Storm necessarily counts cos to most people it's pretty established but a little while back I read a 30+ page thread with people that refused to believe she was not straight and I'm more than ready for her to have a relationship with a woman (or not male person) other than Yukio (but I mean she is great too don't get me wrong.)
Actually that's more where my wishes are going, I'd also like to see more from the b-d listers already established as lgbtq and do something with them instead of forgetting they exist or ignoring that part of them. (Iceman is cool. I'm glad Iceman is out there and Psylocke is...confusing but there can be more than one or 2.)
That said...Aurora.
Aurora would be really, really tricky to do this with and require some careful retcons. Given her history of "mental illness written badly in comics" and split personalities, I'm concerned if not done right it could be too easily just make an already problematic backstory the route used by future writers to sweep it under the rug.
It definitely did occur to me that there's a million ways it could go wrong...but it's not like comics is new to taking problematically written women of earlier days and giving them a more solid foundation, especially in the last decade, and I'd like to see that happen for her as well. I mean I know the likelihood of this happening on such a peripheral character is slim as hell, but I can dream dammit.
Ultimate Jessica Drew's whole deal is that she's a clone of Peter Parker. Literally born in the wrong body. I mean, come on.
