Two Fandoms Ripe for Rewrites

Two fandoms whose endings proved very unsatisfying to me in recent years were Captive Prince and Crimson Peak. (In fact Crimson Peak had any number of problems from start to finish that I've written about before).

An Arranged Marriage by Josselin, a Captive Prince AU that suggests how differently things might have gone had Damen not killed Auguste on the field, and had Laurence applied his political mind to other options. It's rather short on character development, largely because it's more plot oriented. But the characterization that was there worked well and many parts rang true.

A Fiction Carefully Wrought by Yahtzee

Thomas Sharpe takes drastic steps to change his life with Edith, and for the better--but his past can't be left behind so easily. The narrative has changed, but what kind of shape will their story take from now? It's up to Edith to determine their genre by choosing which ending their tortured histories most deserve...

I thought the framing device used for this AU, which kicks off 2/3 of the way through the original story, was intriguing and does more to develop Edith. I also liked the fact that it didn't simply wipe out the past but provided a possibility for it to move forward.

Despite the fact that the canon begs for improvements on a number of fronts that should have caused a lot of fanworks to flourish, I've tried out a number of Crimson Peak fanfics and found all of them wanting in either the characterization or plot. But this one works believably for me, and I'd love to find more like it.
