Consumerist Christmas Tree uses 2,000 plastic bags to make you rethink holiday shopping
This December marks the second year in a row that Luzinterruptus has installed the Consumerist Christmas Tree. The first installation in 2013 had been located in the English city of Durham for the Lumiere Festival. Like last year, the designers reached out to the local community to donate shopping bags and participate in assembling and attaching the bags to a prefabricated tree structure.
Consumer waste goes up significantly during the holiday season. There is always a possibility to celebrate traditions while honouring the Earth and the wellbeing of the environment.
This Christmas Tree Installation is a good visual reminder of the huge amount of plastic crap that frequently ends up in the bin during consumer holidays.
Remember to bring a reuseable bag with you on your shopping extravaganzas, or better yet make a thoughtful gift instead- a favourite recipe, for example, packed in a reusable container. Better yet, why not give a symbolic animal adoption, or charitable donation to a worthy environmental cause?
Keep the Earth in mind as you stand in line at the shop to buy rolls of freshly manufactured wrapping paper wrapped in plastic packaging. Look for alternatives. You probably have several already in your home!
I'll be posting zero waste Christmas tips over the next few days. Please share yours with us, too!
